The word Paperophanies means “Paper surfaces” and a surface can be conceived as a place/ space/time, for action and self-expression Epiphanies (Greek word) also means:
A- sudden manifestation of the essence of meaning.
B- comprehension or perception of reality by means of a sudden intuitive realization.

Artium Museum is pleased to announce the forthcoming project PAPEROPHANIES that consists of a series of workshops and public discussions, which ends with an ultimate event a public parade. Paperophanies is conceived by the artist Jenny Marketou and is organized as part of PRAXIS Projects and in collaboration with local schools, institutions, community groups and general public in the city of Vitoria in Basque country in Spain.

The aim of Paperophanies is to produce a platform for knowledge and social awareness which through a series of DYI workshops and discussions lead by the artist and other local artists and individuals to produce a personal and collective statement for social network, creativity, action, knowledge and pleasure. The workshops will take place at the PRAXIS gallery of Artium Museum which has been especially designed by the artist as an open fashion atelier and in collaboration with the local community, schools, institutions and general public of all ages.

In this moment of world crisis, uncertainty and major social changes Paperophanies introduce and encourage in a creative way the importance of strategies for free speech and public performance combined with fashion as the most of effective and powerful vehicles to critically question how art is producing action or even agency.

Paperophanies also suggest the significant role that fashion as agency plays since it is one of the main producers of cultural, ethnic, social and gender representation as well as it constructs identity and self expression – not to mention its importance for the global trade market and the processes of production and fetishism of commodity.

La palabra Paperophanies quiere decir superficies de papel, entendiendo superficie como lugar/espacio/tiempo para la acción y expression propia.  La palabra Epiphania proviene del griego (lugar de nacimiento de la artista), y

Alude a un doble significado:
A-    repentina manifestación de la esencia del significado.
B-    comprensión o percepción de la realidad por medio de una repentina realización intuitiva.

El museo Artium se complace en anunciar el próximo proyecto PAPEROPHANIES que consiste en una serie de talleres y debates públicos, que culminará con una performance-manifestación pública con todos los participantes en la plaza de la Virgen Blanca de Vitoria. Paperophanies está concebido por la artista Jenny Marketou y está organizado como parte del proyecto PRAXIS en colaboración con escuelas, instituciones, grupos de la comunidad y público  en general de la ciudad de Vitoria en el País Vasco en España.

El objetivo de Paperophanies es producir  una plataforma para el conocimiento y conciencia social  a traves de una serie de talleres DYI y debates guiados por la artista y otros artistas locales e individuos . De este modo se produce una colisión entre los conceptos de creación y muestra, producción y producto a partir de los cuales Marketou desarrolla un proyecto donde convivirán diversión, frustración y asombro durante el proceso de creación de la/s pieza/s. Los talleres tendrán lugar en la sala PRAXIS del museo ARTIUM que ha sido especialmente diseñada por la artista como taller abierto en colaboración con la comunidad local, colegios, instituciones y público en general de todas las edades.

En este momento de crisis mundial, incertidumbre e importantes cambios sociales, Paperophanies introduce y anima de una forma creativa la importancia de las estrategias para el discurso libre y la representación pública combinado con la moda como los más efectivos y poderosos vehículos para mostrar el arte como un agente generador de acción.

Paperophanies también sugiere el significante papel que la moda como agente juega desde que es uno de los principales productores de representación cultural, étnica, social y de género, así como que construye identidad y auto expression – por no mencionar su importancia en el mercado de comercio global y el proceso de producción y fetichismo de producto.

  2. If you think that fashion is Channel, you are reading too much fashion magazines. Looking at fashion as a political and personal statemant, this is what this project is about. Paper dresses made of different colors where people can write what they want. There are protest messages, love messages, and personal messages. From them museum where they are hanging now, they will be in the street. People wearing messages which are not the name of the designers.
